As an aspiring nutritionist, I have concerns with the current world of nutrition. A part of the drive to continue my education is based on my personal confusion with the health world today. One group tells us to eat meat, the other says meat will kill us. We’ve been told fat is bad and now it’s not. We’ve been told so many fallacies about how to fuel our bodies that it’s easy to want to give up.
Coming from someone who has tried it all, I’m fed up. Instead of jumping into an expected rant about food companies, deceiving marketing tactics, and poorly researched articles paid for by major food companies, I actually want to talk about the lack of individuality with nutrition. SPOILER ALERT: there is no one solution to meet all our needs, both individually and collectively! There are hundreds of programs out there that have worked for people and hundreds more than haven’t, and many programs can even fall into both categories.
So, if we actually try and cut through the B.S., what do we know to be undeniably true?
- We’re all different. We all have different tastes. Our ability to absorb nutrients is different. Some of us have food sensitivities and different health ailments.
- Each of our health journeys is going to be just that, our own! We need to listen to our bodies to figure out what they need. And just when we think we have it figured out there will be a life change (pregnancy, weight loss, medical conditions, increase/decrease in activity) and we’re going to have to figure it out all over again.
- It doesn’t have to be as complicated as we make it. We just have to be willing to experiment and listen to what our bodies are telling us.
One of the reasons why we created this blog is because we wanted to spend more time figuring out how we can feel better daily. Think of it as a science experiment of sorts. Rather than blindly following programs and protocols and being disappointed if they don’t work, we’re looking to figure out what works for us.
Over the next year, it’s our goal to work through a range of programs. These programs will be focused around nutrition, lifestyle, and inner purpose. We want to learn more about ourselves and what will allow us to feel energized, focused, and properly fueled every single day.
We encourage you to join us! There are a lot of different ways to go about this experience and we believe that documentation of the journey and having a community to share with are paramount to the success of the self-discovery process. We aren’t here to tell you how to do it or what to do, we are simply creating the space for you to learn about YOU!
Stay tuned for more deets on our next program and how you can join in.
Life is happening. Go for it.
